  • FAQ

  • Is Cavex GreenClean also effective in removing plaster and gypsum residues?

Yes, gypsum and plaster both contain calcium, which can form a complex with Cavex GreenClean. Therefore, Cavex GreenClean can be used for the removal of gypsum residues on dentures or calcium-based investment on cuvettes. In both situations, without damaging the dentures or cuvettes. It is not possible to use Cavex GreenClean for the cleaning of phosphate-based investment, as phosphate will not form a complex with Cavex GreenClean.

  • Is Cavex GreenClean effective in removing Alginate adhesives?

Cavex GreenClean will not dissolve the resin residues of alginate adhesives. This also applies for tray cleaners of other manufacturers unless they contain certain amounts of alcohol or acetone. There is no tray cleaner which can dissolve resin residues and be effective against alginate as Cavex GreenClean is. Most of the alginate adhesives contain resins, which are dissolved in very volatile and flammable organic liquids. After application of the alginate adhesive on the impression tray the liquid evaporates and the sticky resin will remain. The manufacturers of these alginate adhesives advise their clients to use a volatile organic solvent like acetone or isopropyl alcohol to remove these residues.

  • Is it possible to disinfect impression trays in a thermo-disinfector when small amounts of Cavex GreenClean are present on the surface?

Yes, Cavex GreenClean is not surface-active (no foam forming) and will not react with the detergents in the thermo-disinfector.

  • Can Cavex GreenClean be used in an ultrasonic bath?

Yes, Cavex GreenClean is even more effective when used in an ultrasonic bath. Residues of alginate and gypsum are dissolved more easily in a shorter exposure time.  Attention: some instruments are not resistant to cleaning in an ultrasonic bath.

  • Do higher temperatures speed up the cleaning process?

No, Cavex GreenClean is the most effective at room temperature. The complex forming reaction takes time and higher temperature will not shorten the exposure time.

  • Can Cavex GreenClean be used in an automatic tray-cleaning device (Sonic)?

At this moment, we do not advice the use of Cavex GreenClean in such devices.

  • Is it possible to prepare a premix of Cavex GreenClean?

Yes, Cavex GreenClean can be premixed for later use when the premix is stored in a covered container. If the premix is not immediately used, Cavex GreenClean keeps its activity for at least one week.

  • How long can Cavex GreenClean be used?

The solution of Cavex GreenClean becomes less effective the more often the solution is used and the more alginate or gypsum is dissolved in the solution. Calculations based upon the chemistry show that 500 ml solution is effective for the cleaning of at least 25 impression trays. The liquid must be refreshed when the liquid is no longer transparent and a layer of residue is formed on the bottom of the liquid container.

  • Some impression trays show a black layer after some time, what is the reason for this?

Water containing dissolved salts can act as transport medium for electrical currents. When impression trays or instruments made of different metals are placed in such a solution, oxidation can occur, resulting in a black layer on one or more of the metals. This phenomenon is comparable to the effect in a battery and can even occur in tap water.

  • Is Cavex GreenClean Biodegradable?

A “Biodegradable” product has the ability to break down, safely and relatively quickly to natural materials, which disappear in the environment without causing any harm. Cavex GreenClean is fully degradable and can be disposed with regular waste or sewage according to local legislation. Cavex GreenClean is pH neutral, does not contain any toxic components according to the Dangerous Substances Directive 67/584/EEC and the reactive component is listed in Europe as generally permitted food additive.
